Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl β€” who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college β€” getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
