Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
